Hi Beauties,
Recharge your day and hang out with Ballet Beautiful Master Trainer, Lucy, for a laid-back get-to-know you.
When and how did you start dancing? I began training in classical ballet in NYC while attending Ballet Tech: Eliot Feld's public school for dance. I continued my training at LaGuardia High School and the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance during my teenage years.
What made you fall in love with dance? As a young student, I loved the discipline and beauty of a ballet class, being challenged both physically and mentally, and dancing to the inspiring music of live pianists. What resonated with me was the constant push for improvement, whether that was from my wonderful teachers or myself.
What is your greatest strength as a dancer? I always have enjoyed finding the different textures and nuances of movement. One moment can be sharp and powerful while the next can be soft and emotional.
Can you describe a core memory of you as a dancer? Set the stage for us! I will never forget touring to Athens, Greece with the Martha Graham Dance Company and dancing in the Herodes Atticus theater… The outdoor stage was originally built in 161 A.D. and could seat up to 6,000 people! It was a blue moon that night and the performance was magical.
What is your favorite class style or workout structure for training? Starting with a challenging series of core, glutes, inner thigh, and outer thigh on the mat is a great way to warm up and tone the body. I continue with standing work to focus on upper body, posture, and cardio to connect all the dots and have fun with movement! Towards the end of class our muscles are warmed up enough to add deeper stretches to create length in the body and reduce the risk of soreness the next day.
What is the best motivation for you to workout when you have an "off" day? I usually notice some tightness in an area of my body, whether that is my back, hips, etc. In order to stretch effectively, I will warm up those muscle groups by doing a targeted BB workout. After the workout + stretching, I always feel so much better!
What is your favorite BB Kitchen recipe? I love the BB recipes for Satisfying and Healthy Dinner Sides! If I can pick up vegetables at a local farmers market, even better!
What is your favorite BB Challenge? I love the Summer Sculpt challenge, and I'll be revisiting that one throughout the year! Find the Ballet Beautiful Summer Sculpt Challenge in the Custom Workout BB Challenges Feature > Year 3 of Ballet Beautiful Challenges.
What is your favorite BB Activewear or Accessory? My favorite BB outfit is the Zip Front Leotard paired with Skyline Shorts or the Mesh Wrap Mini Skirt!
